Dan Mars, Microsoft Delivery Manager for Coretek, was excited about Voleer as soon as his BitTitan representative told him how assessments and automations could support their services. But he still needed to make sure his technical team would embrace the tools.

“You never want to be in that situation where you buy software, and then it sits there not being used,” says Dan. “We’ve got people who’ve been doing something the same way for 20 years, and they’ve switched over to using Voleer. That’s huge – having them recognize how the tool makes their lives easier was powerful for adoption.”

One thing that made the difference was the one-on-one sessions that Voleer scheduled with the Coretek team to make sure they knew how to use the assessments to their maximum capability. Coretek had built up considerable in-house expertise in writing scripts to pull data for migration projects. But after taking a look at Voleer, they realized they could increase efficiency and deliver a more consistent experience.

Faster, more complete project discovery

Coretek handles many types of complex migrations for enterprise clients, including mergers and acquisitions, holding company consolidations, and tenant-to-tenant migrations. They’ve replaced custom PowerShell scripts with Voleer assessments for upfront data gathering and project scoping. For Microsoft 365 environments, Dan’s team uses the Monthly/Quarterly Report, Tenant Migration Assessment, User Content Migration Assessment, License Usage and Optimization Assessment, and the Microsoft Teams Assessment.

Coretek leverages migration discovery and scoping assessments for upfront data gathering. They’ve not only discovered significantly increased efficiencies, but they’re also getting more complete data to estimate costs and timing. It used to be standard for complex migrations to include a discovery phase as part of the project plan. Now Dan can set a fixed fee for the pre-migration phase because Voleer assessments give his team a clear idea of what they’re dealing with before the project gets started.

“The first thing clients want to know is what the project is going to cost,” says Dan. “With Voleer assessments, we can get to that number right away. Before, if clients wanted an estimate quickly, we’d have to over-estimate it because we were pretty much shooting in the dark.”

Tools the entire team can use

After a migration project is kicked off, the Coretek team runs reports to make sure their project plan is comprehensive, and the migration will run smoothly.

Another benefit of Voleer is that it allows anyone on the team to run reports. They no longer have to go to the one person who developed a custom script to get the data they need. The Voleer dashboard allows multiple people on the project to see what’s going on and check the most current version of a report.

Dan and the Coretek team have embraced several Voleer assessments, and they’re looking forward to trying more.
